A new tax could soon end up on your TV bill

Fee-for-carriage:
An amount of at least $60 per year per cable and satellite customer that Canadian conventional broadcasters are asking for.
However…
Canadian conventional broadcasters such as CBC/SRC, CTV, Global, ‘A’, CHEK, V and TVA, have many privileges:
They have guaranteed access to all Canadian homes via cable, satellite or antenna
They can sell as much advertising as they want, and have a monopoly on local
     advertising
They are heavily subsidized
So why do they want fee-for-carriage, too?
This new fee would cost each cable and satellite subscriber at least $60 more per year and people who receive their signal via antenna won’t have to pay a thing.

  And that’s not all!
The Local Programming Improvement Fund (LIPF) has already been set up and represents a 1.5% levy on cable and satellite television
service fees (appearing soon on our customer billing).
And the CRTC has plans for more levies, too.
