Can I enable bridge mode on my Cogeco Wireless Modem?

Cogeco Cable offers Wireless Modems that allow you to access your internet service anywhere in your home, rather than having to directly connect to the modem or through a separate router.

If you already have a Wireless Modem but now wish to use your own router instead, you must first call our customer service department and have the Wireless service deactivated from your account to allow for other routers to be used. After you have done this, you must log into the router and enable the bridging mode.

Here are the instructions on how to bridge your Cisco and Arris Wireless Modems.

Once Bridging has been enabled, you will be able to connect your own router to the Wireless Modem had have it operate correctly.

Instructions for the Cisco modem

To enable bridging, you must first log into the Wireless modem.

Open a web browser such as Explorer and in the URL type in 192.168.0.1 and press the enter key. You should be prompted for a username and password.

By default, the username and password are:

Username: (blank)
Password: password

Once you have done this press enter, you will be presented with the main Cisco screen. The option we are concerned with is Administration (see below). Click this link.

When the new screen loads, look for a dropdown box called "Working Mode". Click this drop down and the following options will be displayed (see below)

From this drop down list select "Bridged Only" and click "Save Settings". Exit out of the Wireless modem setup. The modem will reset and Bridging will be enabled.

Instructions for the Arris modem

Open your web browser and in the URL type in 192.168.0.1 and press the enter key. You will then be prompted for a username and password.

By default, the username and password are:

Username: admin
Password: password

Once you enter these and press enter, you will be presented with the main Arris screen. The option we are concerned with is LAN Setup (see below). Click this link.

When the new screen loads, we are looking for a dropdown box called "NAT Mode". Click this drop down and the following options will be displayed (see below)

From this drop down list select "Bridged" and then click "Apply". Exit out of the Wireless eMTA setup. The router portion of the eMTA may reset, but after it does, you should be able to plug the router into the eMTA and receive service. The eMTA will not be reset when this is done, so the phone will stay connected.
