What is the Local Programming Improvement Fund? (LPIF)

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) created the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF) to subsidize the production of new local programming, largely at the request of public and private television networks. The Fund is financed by a 1% levy on the television services revenues of cable and satellite television service distributors.
