FAQ
What is the difference between High-Definition Television service and Cogeco’s current digital TV services?
A high-definition signal enhances both the picture and the sound of a programme so that it is crisper and more detailed than ever before with about five times the resolution (discover our Interactive Demo).
- A High-Definition Television (HD TV) is a type of Digital Television (DTV) that receives and/or displays High-Definition (HD) images.
- HD typically offers Dolby® Digital 5.1 Channel surround sound rather than the stereo sound that comes with standard digital service.
- The combination of an HD TV set , HD receiver and HD programming, provides an image that is five times sharper than the image displayed on a standard TV due to the greater number of pixels contained in the received signal and the higher resolution capability of the HD TV set.
- HD TV screens are wider than traditional analog TV screens.
- Analog TVs offer a screen aspect ratio of 4:3 while HD TVs offer an aspect ratio of 16:9, which is a similar aspect ratio to that of a movie screen.
- HD TV allows you to watch movies as they were shown in theatres without reformatting.
