Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF)
Cogeco is pleased with the CRTC’s decision to phase out the LPIF. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced that the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF/FAPL) will be phased out by August 31, 2014.
Cogeco will comply with the CRTC’s decision and reduce the LPIF charges in accordance with the declining rates set by the CRTC in its decision. The LPIF charge shows as a separate line item on your bill. The reductions in the LPIF charge will therefore be applied in that line item and you will will directly benefit from these reduced charges.
The LPIF reduction will decrease according to the following schedule :
- As of September 2012 reduce the contribution rate from 1.5% to 1%.
- As of September 2013 reduce the contribution rate to 0.5%.
- As of September 2014 LPIF no longer applied to TV services.
