Internet usage

What is Internet usage?

Internet usage is the amount of data your computer sends to and receives over the Internet, usually measured in gigabytes. Every time you download a song, upload a picture, surf the Web or send or receive email, a certain number of bytes of data are being transferred to or from your computer.

What is a gigabyte (GB)?

A gigabyte is a typical unit of measurement for data that is the equivalent of one billion bytes. For instance, 30 GB of data represents as many as:

  • Up to 6,000 MP3
  • Or up to 30 Standard Movies
  • Or up to 12 HD Movies.

Internet usage and your wireless home network

If you rent a Cogeco wireless modem or have a wireless home network (WLAN or Wi-Fi network), be sure that it is protected against unauthorized remote access. If not, unauthorized individuals could access your account and download or exchange data, which would impact your monthly limit.

To protect yourself from such infringements, obtain Cogeco Security Services.
