IP Addresses and IPv6 FAQ
What are the benefits to IPv6?
Although IPv6 was designed with IPv4’s IP address exhaustion in mind, there are some additional benefits provided by IPv6. Some new features:
Improved Variant of Multicasting – Anycast (Network addressing and routing scheme whereby data is routed to nearest or best destination as viewed by the routing topology), Stateless Address Auto Configuration (SLAAC), as an alternative to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Improved security such as built-in extensions to support security options, Simplified processing by routers, header format simplification, and Flow Labelling Capability meaning new QOS that enables labelling of packets belonging to particular traffic flows.
