Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF)

Last year, Cogeco was pleased with the CRTC’s decision to phase out the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF). The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced that the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF) will be phased out by August 31, 2014.

Cogeco will comply again this year with the CRTC’s decision and reduce the LPIF charges in accordance with the declining rates set by the CRTC in its decision. The LPIF charge shows as a separate line item on your bill. The reductions in the LPIF charge will therefore be applied in that line item and you will directly benefit from these reduced charges.

The LPIF reduction will decrease according to the following schedule :

  • In September 2012 the contribution rate was reduced from 1.5% to 1%.
  • As of September 2013, the contribution rate was reduced from 1% to 0.5%.
  • As of September 2014, the Fund will be discontinued.

Please visit the CRTC website for more details about the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF) reduction.
