How do I use the apps available with my TiVo® PVR?

With your TiVo® PVR, you can access the Plex, YouTube and Netflix apps, as well as the Opera TV Store, which includes the following apps: Facebook, Twitter, National Film Board (NFB) and The Weather Network.

Using the Netflix app

In order to use Netflix with your TiVo® PVR, you need to be subscribed to Netflix. You don’t have to pay anything more than your usual monthly Netflix fee to access Netflix through your TiVo® PVR; Netflix will not appear on your monthly bill from Cogeco.

How to install Netflix:

  1. Press the TiVo® Central button on your remote.
  2. Select Apps & Cogeco On Demand, then Netflix.
  3. Select Member Sign In, and sign in with your Netflix username and password. Or, if you don’t have a Netflix subscription yet, select Join Now and follow the on-screen instructions.

Unlinking your Netflix account

If you no longer want your Netflix account to be accessible from your TiVo® PVR, follow the steps below:

  1. Press the TiVo® Central button on your remote.
  2. Select Settings & Messages.
  3. Select User Preferences.
  4. Select Add & Manage Apps, then follow the on-screen instructions to unlink your Netflix account.

Using Netflix to cast videos to your TiVo® PVR

The Discover and Launch (DIAL) protocol is a set of open-source standards used by Netflix. DIAL allows you to find Netflix videos on your mobile device and open them on your DIAL-compatible TiVo® devices. To use this feature, your mobile device and TiVo® device must be on the same network. However, they do not have to be paired.

Using the Plex app with your TiVo® PVR

The Plex app on your TiVo® PVR or TiVo® HD Receiver lets you stream videos, music and photos from your computer or network-attached storage (NAS) device, by organizing video, music, and photo collections with the Plex Media Server app. This media server app can be downloaded from

You can also install Plex channels on your media server, which are essentially popular apps (such as YouTube) that feature online video content.

Plex and your network connection

Plex requires your TiVo® PVR to have a working Internet connection. In addition, your network must meet the following requirements:

  • Ports 80 and 443 must be open on your network. (Please consult your modem’s user guide for more information on managing traffic access.)
  • Your TiVo® PVR and your computer or NAS device with your running version of the Plex Media Server must be connected to the same network.

App setup on an external device

Before you can stream content from your computer or NAS device to your TiVo® PVR, you need to complete the setup process for your Plex Media Server.

A basic version of the Plex Media Server app is available for free, while more advanced versions are available for a range of prices.

Visit to find the version that fits your needs. Make sure to complete all of the setup steps on your computer or NAS device before trying to stream content to your TiVo® PVR.

To access the Plex app, follow these steps:

  1. Press the TiVo®Central button on your remote.
  2. Select Apps & Cogeco On Demand.
  3. Select Plex.

About the impact on your home Internet connection’s usage limit

Keep in mind that the use of the Netflix, YouTube and Opera TV apps do count toward your monthly Internet usage limit. However, when using the Plex app to stream your own media (e.g. photos, music or videos), you will not use bandwidth. Plex Channels, on the other hand, do count towards your monthly limit.
