How do I change my wireless network name (SSID) and password?

To change the password of your wireless network, connect your computer to your wireless modem using an Ethernet cable. Then, open the control panel and change your password.

If you have a Cisco modem, follow these steps:

  1. Open a new browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Press Enter to display the router's administration page.
  2. You’ll be asked to enter your username and password. If you haven’t  created them yet, leave both fields blank and click Log In.Cisco Login
  3. Click Setup in the menu bar.Cisco Setup

  5. In the field beside Pre-Shared Key, enter your new password. Make a note of it for future reference.Cisco Change Password
  6. Click Save Settings. Since the router will reboot, you may need to restart your computer or reestablish your wireless connection.

If you have an Arris modem, follow these steps:

  1. Open a new browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Press Enter to display the router’s administration page.
  2. You will be asked to enter your username and password. By default, the username is “admin” and the password is “password”. Press Enter.
  3. You will automatically be taken to the Basic Setup tab. Under Basic Setup, scroll down. Enter the password you want in the field beside Pre-Shared Key.Arris Security Settings
  4. Click ApplySince the router will reboot, you may need to restart your computer or reestablish your wireless connection.

To change the name of your wireless network, connect your computer to your wireless modem using an Ethernet cable. Then, open the control panel and in the Wireless Settings section, change the SSID—the name that was given to your wireless network by default.
